Artist's Description
Base painting for the vintage movie poster ''Boudu Saved from Drowning'', a French comedy-drama film released in 1932, directed by Jean Renoir. It's a poignant exploration of societal norms, class dynamics, and human nature, wrapped in a humorous and satirical narrative. The film follows the story of Boudu, a free-spirited and eccentric tramp, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he is rescued from drowning by a well-meaning bourgeois bookseller.
The titular character, Boudu, portrayed with remarkable authenticity by Michel Simon, is a vagabond living on the fringes of society. Simon's performance captures Boudu's carefree and unapologetic attitude towards life, as well as his disdain for societal conventions and materialism. When Boudu is rescued by Edouard Lestingois, played by Charles Granval, he becomes an unwitting guest in the bourgeois household, disrupting the carefully curated order of their lives.
As Boudu integrates himself into the Lestingois family, chaos...
